YOU HAVE ASSURANCE

i will be with you

In today’s first reading (Jeremiah 1: 1, 4-10), God again overrules Jeremiah’s objection that he is too young and is not gifted as an orator to become a prophet by the words “I WILL BE WITH YOU.”

God reassured with the same words many great figures of the Old Testament who were overwhelmed by God’s plans on them:  Joshua, Gideon, Solomon, Johanan, the people of Israel, Zerubabel, Mary, Paul and the Church.

GOD DOES NOT CHANGE. All of us are charged by Him with a great mission.   If we feel unequal to the responsibility He entrusts us with, let us remember that, through it all, HE SHALL ALWAYS BE AT OUR SIDE.

St. Apollinarius, pray for us!

Always remember, He will be with you!

God bless,

YOUR LAST 30 DAYS

IF YOU HAD ONLY 30 DAYS LEFT, HOW WILL YOU LIVE?

Credit:  Article featured in Kerygma Magazine Nov. 2014 Special Section

30 days

IMAGINE THIS – When you woke up this morning, the phone rings.  You’re still in your pajamas, drinking your coffee.  You stand up and pick up the phone.

You hear your doctor’s voice.  In a very somber tone, he says, “I have to say this to you because I’m your friend and I’m your doctor.  I’m now holding in my hand the results of your medical tests.  I’m very sorry, but you’re going to die in 30 days.”

The shock is overwhelming.  The room around you starts to spin.  You sit down.  “Thirty days?  But that’s so soon…”

I know this is scary.

Let me ask you.

HOW WOULD YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE DURING THOSE 30 DAYS?

What appointments will you make?

What appointments will you drop?

What will you include in your daily schedule?

What will you prioritize?

What will you give away?

What will you say to your loved ones?

What will you not say to your loved ones?

How will you pray?  What will you pray for?

STARTING TODAY, LIVE THE NEXT 30 DAYS AS THOUGH THEY WERE YOUR LAST.

Counsel Of The Wicked

WHO FIRED THAT SHOT?

Our Daily Gem

fear1

The Mullah Nasruddin brought his students to the fair so that they could watch him compete in
the archery contest. Before his first shot, the Mullah fixed his cap military style and, assuming a
soldier’s posture, drew the bow and fired. The arrow missed the target completely, and the crowd
roared with derisive laughter.
Then he picked up the bow again, this time with little strength, and shot the second arrow. It flew
straight, but landed far short of the mark. Again, the onlookers guffawed. For the last of his three
allotted shots, Nasruddin nonchalantly turned to face the target, aimed, and let fly. It was a
perfect bull’s-eye.
The crowd went wild, then fell into a stunned silence. Nasruddin chose the moment to take his
prize and indifferently started to walk on. But his students and the astonished throng demanded
an explanation. Nasruddin complied and told them, “For the first shot, I was identified with a
soldier, face-to-face with the enemy. Fear made the arrow miss. With the second shot, I became
like the man who, having failed miserably with the first shot, was so anxious and eager he could
not concentrate. He simply had no power.”

“And the third shot?” inquired a brave soul. “Who fired that one?” “That? Oh, that was me.”-

TAKE NOTHING WITH YOU

Our Daily Dose of Wisdom:

wisdom 092315

Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and He sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

He said to them, “TAKE NOTHING FOR THE JOURNEY, NEITHER WALKING STICK, NOR SACK, NOR FOOD, NOR MONEY, AND LET NO ONE TAKE A SECOND TUNIC.  WHATEVER HOUSE YOU ENTER, STAY THERE AND LEAVE FROM THERE.  AND AS FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT WELCOME YOU, WHEN YOU LEAVE THAT TOWN, SHAKE THE DUST FROM YOUR FEET IN TESTIMONY AGAINST THEM.”

Then they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the good news and curing diseases everywhere.

*NOT ALL OF US CAN DO GREAT THINGS – BUT, WE CAN DO SMALL THINGS WITH GREAT LOVE.

*I ALONE CANNOT CHANGE THE WORLD – BUT, I CAN CAST A STONE ACROSS THE WATERS TO CREATE MANY RIPPLES.

*THESE ARE THE WAYS WE CAN PRACTICE HUMILITY: SPEAK AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE ABOUT YOURSELF.  MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. AVOID MANAGING OTHER PEOPLE’S AFFAIRS. AVOID CURIOSITY. ACCEPT CONTRADICTIONS AND CORRECTIONS CHEERFULLY.  ACCEPT INSULTS AND INJURIES.  ACCEPT BEING SLIGHTED, FORGOTTEN AND DISLIKED.  BE KIND AND GENTLE, EVEN UNDER PROVOCATION. ALWAYS CHOOSE THE HARDEST.

*I’M A LITTLE PENCIL IN THE HAND OF WRITING GOD, WHO IS SENDING A LOVE LETTER TO THE WORLD.

*PRAYER ISN’T ASKING, IT’S PUTTING YOURSELF IN THE HANDS OF GOD – AND LISTENING TO HIS VOICE IN DEPTH OF OUR HEARTS.

*IF YOU’RE HUMBLE, NEITHER PRAISE NOR DISGRACE CAN TOUCH YOU – BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

*A LIFE NOT LIVED FOR OTHERS ISN’T LIFE AT ALL!

*NEVER WORRY ABOUT NUMBERS.  HELP ONE PERSON AT A TIME – AND ALWAYS START WITH THE PERSON NEAREST YOU.

*GIVE YOURSELF FULLY TO GOD.  HE’LL USE YOU TO ACCOMPLISH GREAT THINGS ON THE CONDITION THAT YOU BELIEVE MUCH MORE IN HIS LOVE THAN IN YOUR WEAKNESS.

*PEOPLE ARE UNREALISTIC, ILLOGICAL AND SELF-CENTERED – BUT LOVE THEM ANYWAY.

*LOVE IS FRUIT IN SEASON AT ALL TIMES – AND WITHIN REACH OF EVERY HAND!

OWN TREASURES IN HEAVEN

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today:

wisdom 081715

A young man approached Jesus and said, “TEACHER, WHAT GOOD MUST I DO TO GAIN ETERNAL LIFE?”

He answered him, “Why do you ask me about the good?  There is only One who is good.  If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

He asked Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus replied, “You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother; and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

The young man said to Him, “All of these I have observed.  What do I still lack?”  Jesus said to him, “IF YOU WISH TO BE PERFECT, GO, SELL WHAT YOU HAVE AND GIVE TO THE POOR, AND YOU WILL HAVE TREASURE IN HEAVEN. THEN COME, FOLLOW ME.”

YOU WILL NEVER DIE

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today

wisdom 072915

Many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother (Lazarus, who had died).  When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him; but Mary sat at home.  Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.  But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise.”  Martha said to Him, “I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day.”  Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and anyone who lives and believes in me will never die.  Do you believe this?”  She said to Him, “Yes, Lord.  I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.”

PRAYER FOR A HAPPY DEATH

PRAYER FOR A HAPPY DEATH

by Corazon C. Aquino (Mother of Philippine Democracy)

Almighty God, most merciful Father

You alone know the time

You alone know the hour

You alone know the moment

When I shall breathe my last.

So, remind me each day,

most loving Father

To be the best that I can be.

To be humble, to be kind,

To be patient, to be true.

To embrace what is good,

To reject what is evil,

To adore only You.

When the final moment does come

Let not my loved ones grieve for long.

Let them comfort each other

And let them know how much happiness

They brought into my life.

Let them pray for me,

As I will continue to pray for them,

Hoping that they will always pray for each other.

Let them know that they made possible

Whatever good I offered to our world.

And let them realize that our separation

Is just for a short while

As we prepare for our reunion in eternity.

Our Father in heaven,

You alone are my hope

You alone are my salvation.

Thank you for your unconditional love.

JESUS said to His Apostles:

“Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves; SO BE SHREWD AS SERPENTS AND SIMPLE AS DOVES.  But beware of men, for they will hand you over to courts and scourge you in their synagogues, and you will be led before governors and kings for my sake as a witness before them and the pagans. When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say.  You will be given at that moment what you are to say.  For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.  BROTHER WILL HAND OVER BROTHER TO DEATH, AND THE FATHER HIS CHILD; CHILDREN WILL RISE UP AGAINST PARENTS AND HAVE THEM PUT TO DEATH.  YOU WILL BE HATED BY ALL BECAUSE OF MY NAME, BUT WHOEVER ENDURES TO THE END WILL BE WILL BE SAVED.  When they persecute you in one town, flee to another.  Amen, I say to you, you will not finish the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.”

OUR UNBELIEFS

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, July 03, 2015:

Thomas called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.  So the other disciples said to him, “WE HAVE SEEN THE LORD.”

But Thomas said to them, “UNLESS I SEE THE MARK OF THE NAILS IN HIS HANDS AND PUT MY FINGER INTO THE NAILMARKS AND PUT MY HAND INTO HIS SIDE, I WILL NOT BELIEVE.”

Now a week later His disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them.  Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.”

Then He said to Thomas, “PUT YOUR FINGER HERE AND SEE MY HANDS, AND BRING YOU HAND AND PUT IT INTO MY SIDE, AND DO NOT BE UNBELIEVING BUT BELIEVE.”

Thomas answered and said to Him, “MY LORD AND MY GOD!’

“People refuse to keep in mind the true knowledge about God, he has given them over to corrupted minds, SO THAT THEY DO THE THINGS THAT THEY SHOULD NOT DO.

They are filled with all kinds of wickedness, evil, greed, and vice; they are full of jealousy, murder, fighting, deceit, and malice.

They gossip and speak evil of one another; they are hateful to God, insolent, proud and boastful; they think of more ways to do evil; they disobey their parents; they have no conscience; they do not keep their promises, and they show no kindness or pity for others.

THEY KNOW THAT GOD’S LAW SAYS THAT PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THIS WAY DESERVE DEATH.  YET, NOT ONLY DO THEY CONTINUE TO DO THESE VERY THINGS, BUT THEY EVEN APPROVE OF OTHERS WHO DO THEM.”

HOW GOOD IS YOUR FRUIT?

Credits:  From the book “Enjoy Life! In the right sense” by Fr. Glenn Paul M. Gomez, SVD; Manila, 2007

On a cold harmattan morning, three palm fruit farmers were warming themselves by the fireside.  Soon, two of them, were engaged in a heated debate comparing their religions to decide which one was the true religion.

Okor, the oldest among them, sat quietly listening to the debate.  Suddenly, the two turned to him and asked, “Decide for us, Okor.  Which religion is the right one?”

Okor rubbed his white beard and said thoughtfully, “Well, you know there are three ways to get from here to the oil mill.  First, you can go right over the hill.  That is shorter, but, it is a steep climb.  Second, you can go around the hill on the right side.  That is not too far, but, the road is rough and full of potholes.  Or, third, you can go around the hill on the left side.  That is the longest way, but, it is also the easiest.”

Okor paused and then, added, “But, you know, when you get there, the mill man doesn’t ask you how you came.  ALL HE ASKS IS, ‘MAN, HOW GOOD IS YOUR FRUIT?'”

If such has been the love of God, we, too, MUST LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love comes to its perfection in us.

How may we know that we live in God and He in us?  Because God has given us His Spirit.

We ourselves have seen, and declare, that the Father sent His Son to save the world.  Those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in them, and they in God.

We have known the love of God and have believed in it.  GOD IS LOVE.  The one who lives in love, lives in God, and God in him.

When do we know, that we have reached a perfect love?  When, in this world, we are like him, in everything, and expect, with confidence, the Day of Judgment.

There is no fear in love.  Perfect love drives away fear, for fear has to do with punishment; those who fear do not know perfect love.

From 1 John 4: 11-18

Reflections:

  1.  Who do you love?
  2. Have you attain perfect love?
  3. Do you expect your love to be returned when you love?

TRUE FAMILY

wisdom 122315

“It is said that the family is at the center of our lives.  Relatives and blood ties are important to us.  So it is natural for us to see no wrong in our relatives – they are always the best and we always take their side.

When there is a beauty contest, of course its your daughter who is the most beautiful.  Even though my child is wrong and the teacher is right, my child is still right.

Sadly, being “family” leads to condoning what is wrong.  This is the root of corruption.  Whenever there is corruption, there are relatives who ask special privileges that are involved.  This is wrong.  This is not what a true family is.

Jesus taught us that His relatives are those who do the will of God.  Hopefully, every family will be like this.”
