OWN TREASURES IN HEAVEN

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today:

wisdom 081715

A young man approached Jesus and said, “TEACHER, WHAT GOOD MUST I DO TO GAIN ETERNAL LIFE?”

He answered him, “Why do you ask me about the good?  There is only One who is good.  If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

He asked Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus replied, “You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother; and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

The young man said to Him, “All of these I have observed.  What do I still lack?”  Jesus said to him, “IF YOU WISH TO BE PERFECT, GO, SELL WHAT YOU HAVE AND GIVE TO THE POOR, AND YOU WILL HAVE TREASURE IN HEAVEN. THEN COME, FOLLOW ME.”

When the young man heard this statement, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

-From the Gospel of Matthew 19:16-22

Reflections:

*Do we see ourselves as the young man?

*Do we wish to attain eternal life?

*Are we willing to give up our earthly possessions and desires to attain such?

*Are we willing to follow Jesus?

GLORIFY ME

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, May 19, 2015:

wisdom 051915

Jesus raised His eyes to heaven and said,

“Father, the hour has come.  Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you, just as you gave him authority over all people, so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave himNow this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.

I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do.  Now GLORIFY ME, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began.  I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world.  They belonged to you, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.  Now they know that everything you gave me is from you, because the words you gave to me I have given to them, and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.

I PRAY FOR THEM.  I do not pray for the world but for the ones you have given me, because they are yours, and everything of mine is yours and everything of yours is mine, and I have been glorified in them.  And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, while I am coming to you.”

-From the Gospel of John 17:1-11

Reflections:

*Are we among those He pray for?

*Are we among those God gave to the world?

*Do our actions and words give glory to God?

YOUR CHOICE: MANNA OR BREAD?

Our One Minute Wisdom for today, April 23, 2015

wisdom 042315

Jesus said to the crowds:  “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day.  It is written in the prophets:  They shall all be taught by God.  Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from Him comes to me.  Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father.”

“Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.  I am the bread of life.  Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.  I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is My Flesh for the life of the world.”

-From the Gospel of John 6: 44-51

Reflections:

  • Is eternal life in paradise part of our goals?
  • How do we plan to achieve that goal?
  • Have we accepted Jesus as the way to getting there?

DARKNESS OVER LIGHT

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, 04/15/15

wisdom 041515

God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

Whoever believes in Him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.

And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.

For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed.  But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

  • From the Gospel of John 3: 16-21

Reflections:

  • Why do we continue to stay in the dark?
  • Do we now know the way to eternal life?
  • Are we now ready to believe in the Son to attain it?

Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.” – Jesus (John 3: 14)
