TRUE FAMILY

wisdom 122315

“It is said that the family is at the center of our lives.  Relatives and blood ties are important to us.  So it is natural for us to see no wrong in our relatives – they are always the best and we always take their side.

When there is a beauty contest, of course its your daughter who is the most beautiful.  Even though my child is wrong and the teacher is right, my child is still right.

Sadly, being “family” leads to condoning what is wrong.  This is the root of corruption.  Whenever there is corruption, there are relatives who ask special privileges that are involved.  This is wrong.  This is not what a true family is.

Jesus taught us that His relatives are those who do the will of God.  Hopefully, every family will be like this.”

reflection 070415

“Son, as you can see, I am so old that I may now die at any time…with your catch prepare an appetizing dish for me, such as I like, and bring it to me to eat, so that I may give you my special blessing before I die.”

Isaac to son Esau (Genesis 27:2-4)

THE BAD & THE GOOD

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, June 16, 2015:

wisdom 061615

Jesus said to His disciples:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, LOVE YOUR ENEMIES, AND PRAY FOR THOSE WHO PERSECUTE YOU, THAT YOU MAY BE CHILDREN OF YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER, FOR HE MAKES HIS SUN RISE ON THE BAD AND THE GOOD, AND CAUSES RAIN TO FALL ON THE JUST AND THE UNJUST.

FOR IF YOU LOVE THOSE WHO LOVE YOU, WHAT RECOMPENSE WILL YOU HAVE?  Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brother only, what is unusual about that?  Do not the pagans do the same?  SO BE PERFECT JUST AS YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER IS PERFECT.”

-From the Gospel of Matthew 5: 43-48

Reflections:

*Why is it easier to curse our enemies and hate those who persecute us?

*Why is it a big challenge to love our neighbors and much more our enemies?

*Why is it very difficult to be perfect in today’s world?

Saint of the Day:

St. John Francis Regis, pray for us.

When St. John Francis was struck in the face by a sinner whom he was reproving, he replied, “If you only knew me, you would give me much more than that” His meekness converted the man, and it is in this spirit that he teaches us to win souls to God. How much might we do if we could forget our own wants in remembering those of others, and put our trust in God!

Love more,

Brother Mo

DO YOU LOVE ME?

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, May 22, 2015:

wisdom 052215

After Jesus had revealed Himself to His disciples and eaten breakfast with them, He said to Simon Peter,

“Simon, son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME MORE THAN THESE?”  Simon Peter answered Him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”  Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”

He said to Simon Peter the second time, “Simon, son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME?”  Simon Peter answered Him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”  He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”

He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME?”

Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to Him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”  Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.  Amen, amen, I say to you, WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER, YOU USED TO DRESS YOURSELF AND GO WHERE YOU WANTED; BUT WHEN YOU GROW OLD, YOU WILL STRETCH OUT YOUR HANDS, AND SOMEONE ELSE WILL DRESS YOU AND LEAD YOU WHERE YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO.”

He said this signifying by what kind of death He would glorify God.  And when he had said this, He said to him, “FOLLOW ME.”

– From the Gospel of John 21: 15-19

Reflections:

*How will we answer Jesus asking us 3X if we love Him?

*How will we respond if we are told to tend His lambs?

*Are we ready to go to places we do not want to go to?

WHAT IS GREATER THAN LOVE

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, May 08, 2015:

wisdom 050815n

Jesus said to His disciples:

“This is my commandment: LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I LOVE YOU.  No one has greater love than this, TO LAY DOWN ONE’S LIFE FOR ONE’S FRIENDS.  You are my friends if you do what I command you.  I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing.  I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from the Father.  It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name He may give you.  This I command you: love one another.”

-From the Gospel of John 15: 12-17

Reflections:

*  Are we ready to love one another?

*  Were there ever an instant when we have laid down our own lives for others?

*  Do we dream to be among His friends?
