YOU HAVE ASSURANCE

i will be with you

In today’s first reading (Jeremiah 1: 1, 4-10), God again overrules Jeremiah’s objection that he is too young and is not gifted as an orator to become a prophet by the words “I WILL BE WITH YOU.”

God reassured with the same words many great figures of the Old Testament who were overwhelmed by God’s plans on them:  Joshua, Gideon, Solomon, Johanan, the people of Israel, Zerubabel, Mary, Paul and the Church.

GOD DOES NOT CHANGE. All of us are charged by Him with a great mission.   If we feel unequal to the responsibility He entrusts us with, let us remember that, through it all, HE SHALL ALWAYS BE AT OUR SIDE.

St. Apollinarius, pray for us!

Always remember, He will be with you!

God bless,

Brother Mo

THE BRUISED REED

rest2

“Here is my servant, whom I have chosen; the one I love, and with whom I am pleased.  I will put my spirit upon him; and he will announce my judgment to the nations.

He will not argue or shout, nor will his voice be heard in the streets.  THE BRUISED REED he will not crush, nor snuff out the smoldering wick until he brings justice to victory, and in him, all the nations will put their hope.”

Prophet Isaiah’s prophecy (Gospel of Matthew 12: 14-21)

Will You Approve?

From the humble Apostle Paul…

020316b

“People refuse to keep in mind the true knowledge about God, he has given them over to corrupted minds, SO THAT THEY DO THE THINGS THAT THEY SHOULD NOT DO.

They are filled with all kinds of wickedness, evil, greed, and vice; they are full of jealousy, murder, fighting, deceit, and malice.

They gossip and speak evil of one another; they are hateful to God, insolent, proud and boastful; they think of more ways to do evil; they disobey their parents; they have no conscience; they do not keep their promises, and they show no kindness or pity for others.

THEY KNOW THAT GOD’S LAW SAYS THAT PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THIS WAY DESERVE DEATH.  YET, NOT ONLY DO THEY CONTINUE TO DO THESE VERY THINGS, BUT THEY EVEN APPROVE OF OTHERS WHO DO THEM.”

(Romans 1: 28-32)

HOW GOOD IS YOUR FRUIT?

Credits:  From the book “Enjoy Life! In the right sense” by Fr. Glenn Paul M. Gomez, SVD; Manila, 2007

On a cold harmattan morning, three palm fruit farmers were warming themselves by the fireside.  Soon, two of them, were engaged in a heated debate comparing their religions to decide which one was the true religion.

Okor, the oldest among them, sat quietly listening to the debate.  Suddenly, the two turned to him and asked, “Decide for us, Okor.  Which religion is the right one?”

Okor rubbed his white beard and said thoughtfully, “Well, you know there are three ways to get from here to the oil mill.  First, you can go right over the hill.  That is shorter, but, it is a steep climb.  Second, you can go around the hill on the right side.  That is not too far, but, the road is rough and full of potholes.  Or, third, you can go around the hill on the left side.  That is the longest way, but, it is also the easiest.”

Okor paused and then, added, “But, you know, when you get there, the mill man doesn’t ask you how you came.  ALL HE ASKS IS, ‘MAN, HOW GOOD IS YOUR FRUIT?'”

Let’s keep working on our fruits,

“Existence is a strange bargain.  Life owes us little; we owe it everything.  The only true happiness comes from squandering ourselves for a purpose.” – William Cowper

Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.  So, by their fruits, you will know them.” – Matthew 7: 19-20

I WANT TO. BE CLEAN.

One day, in another town, a man came to Jesus covered with leprosy.  On seeing Jesus, the man bowed down to the ground, and said, “LORD, IF YOU WANT TO, YOU CAN MAKE ME CLEAN.”

Stretching out His hand, Jesus touched the man and said, “Yes, I want to.  Be clean.”  In an instant, the leprosy left him.

Then Jesus instructed him, “TELL THIS TO NO ONE.  BUT GO, AND SHOW YOURSELF TO THE PRIEST.  MAKE AN OFFERING FOR YOUR HEALING, as Moses prescribed; that will served as evidence for them.

From the Gospel of Luke 5: 12-16

Reflections:

  1.  When we ask for healing, do we humbly ask Him first if He wants to heal us?
  2. If healed, can we keep our excitement and thankfulness to ourselves?
  3. What did we offer to Him when we were once healed?

St. Raymond of Penafort, pray for us.

St. Raymond of Pennafort, Patron Saint of Canonists (Feast day – January 7) Born in Spain, St. Raymond was a relative of the King of Aragon. From childhood he had a tender love and devotion to the Blessed Mother. He finished his studies at an early age, and became a famous teacher. He then gave up all his honors and entered the Order of the Dominicans. St. Raymond was very humble and very close to God. He did much penance and was so good and kind that he won many sinners to God. With King James of Aragon and St. Peter Nolasco he founded the Order of Our Lady of Ransom. The brave religious of this Order devoted themselves to saving poor Christians captured by the Moors.  Read more…

PERFECT LOVE

soulfood 010616

Dear friends,

If such has been the love of God, we, too, MUST LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love comes to its perfection in us.

How may we know that we live in God and He in us?  Because God has given us His Spirit.

We ourselves have seen, and declare, that the Father sent His Son to save the world.  Those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in them, and they in God.

We have known the love of God and have believed in it.  GOD IS LOVE.  The one who lives in love, lives in God, and God in him.

When do we know, that we have reached a perfect love?  When, in this world, we are like him, in everything, and expect, with confidence, the Day of Judgment.

There is no fear in love.  Perfect love drives away fear, for fear has to do with punishment; those who fear do not know perfect love.

From 1 John 4: 11-18

+++

Reflections:

  1.  Who do you love?
  2. Have you attain perfect love?
  3. Do you expect your love to be returned when you love?

TRUE FAMILY

wisdom 122315

“It is said that the family is at the center of our lives.  Relatives and blood ties are important to us.  So it is natural for us to see no wrong in our relatives – they are always the best and we always take their side.

When there is a beauty contest, of course its your daughter who is the most beautiful.  Even though my child is wrong and the teacher is right, my child is still right.

Sadly, being “family” leads to condoning what is wrong.  This is the root of corruption.  Whenever there is corruption, there are relatives who ask special privileges that are involved.  This is wrong.  This is not what a true family is.

Jesus taught us that His relatives are those who do the will of God.  Hopefully, every family will be like this.”
