HOW OLD IS YOUR DAD (OR MOM)?

Our One Minute Reflection for Today, July 04, 2015:

reflection 070415

“Son, as you can see, I am so old that I may now die at any time…with your catch prepare an appetizing dish for me, such as I like, and bring it to me to eat, so that I may give you my special blessing before I die.”

Isaac to son Esau (Genesis 27:2-4)

Reflections:

*How old is you Dad (or Mom)?

*When was the last time you served them? or hugged them? or made them happy?

*Will you wait for their last breath to say “I love you?”

WHEN SOMEONE STRIKES YOU

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, June 15, 2015:

wisdom 061515

Jesus said to His disciples:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth.’  BUT I SAY TO YOU, OFFER NO RESISTANCE TO ONE WHO IS EVIL.  WHEN SOMEONE STRIKES YOU ON YOUR RIGHT CHEEK, TURN THE OTHER ONE TO HIM AS WELL.  IF ANYONE WANTS TO GO TO LAW WITH YOU OVER YOUR TUNIC, HAND HIM YOUR CLOAK AS WELL.  SHOULD ANYONE PRESS YOU INTO SERVICE FOR ONE MILE, GO WITH HIM FOR TWO MILES.  GIVE TO THE ONE WHO ASKS OF YOU, AND DO NOT TURN YOUR BACK ON ONE WHO WANTS TO BORROW.”

-From the Gospel of Matthew 5:38-42

Reflections:

*How do we handle people who hurt us?

*How do we handle people who take advantage of our goodness?

*Are we always willing to give to those in need and to lend to those who want to borrow?

DO YOU LOVE ME?

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, May 22, 2015:

wisdom 052215

After Jesus had revealed Himself to His disciples and eaten breakfast with them, He said to Simon Peter,

“Simon, son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME MORE THAN THESE?”  Simon Peter answered Him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”  Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”

He said to Simon Peter the second time, “Simon, son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME?”  Simon Peter answered Him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”  He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”

He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME?”

Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to Him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”  Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.  Amen, amen, I say to you, WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER, YOU USED TO DRESS YOURSELF AND GO WHERE YOU WANTED; BUT WHEN YOU GROW OLD, YOU WILL STRETCH OUT YOUR HANDS, AND SOMEONE ELSE WILL DRESS YOU AND LEAD YOU WHERE YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO.”

He said this signifying by what kind of death He would glorify God.  And when he had said this, He said to him, “FOLLOW ME.”

– From the Gospel of John 21: 15-19

Reflections:

*How will we answer Jesus asking us 3X if we love Him?

*How will we respond if we are told to tend His lambs?

*Are we ready to go to places we do not want to go to?

HUMBLE GARMENTS

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, April 25, 2015:

wisdom 042515

5 In the same way, younger people, be subject to the elders. Humility towards one another must be the garment you all wear constantly, because God opposes the proud but accords his favor to the humble.

6 Bow down, then, before the power of God now, so that he may raise you up in due time; 7 unload all your burden on to Him, since He is concerned about you.

8 Keep sober and alert, because your enemy the devil is on the prowl like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

9 Stand up to Him, strong in faith and in the knowledge that it is the same kind of suffering that the community of your brothers throughout the world is undergoing.

10 You will have to suffer only for a little while: the God of all grace who called you to eternal glory in Christ will restore you, He will confirm, strengthen and support you.

11 His power lasts for ever and ever. Amen.

  • From First Peter 5:5-14

+++

Reflections:

  • Are we humble?
  • Are we willing to learn or be taught by others?
  • Are we ready to serve others for His glory without expecting anything in return?

Saint of the Day:

St. Mark, pray for us.

Stay humble,

Brother Mo

ARE YOU CLEAN?

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, April 02, 2015 (Holy Thursday)

wisdom 040215

He came to Simon Peter, who said to Him, “Master, are you going to wash my feet?”

Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing, you do not understand now, but you will understand later.”

Peter said to Him, “You will never wash my feet.”  Jesus answered him, “Unless I was you, you will have no inheritance with me.”

Simon Peter said to him, “Master, then not only my feet, but my hands and head as well.”

Jesus said to him, “Whoever has bathed has no need except to have his feet washed, for he is clean all over; so you are clean, but not all.”

For He knew who would betray Him; for this reason, He said, “Not all of you are clean.”

So when He had washed their feet and put His garments back on and reclined at table again, He said to them, “Do you realize what I have done for you?  You call me ‘teacher’ and ‘master’, and rightly so, for indeed I am.  If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet.  I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.”

– From the Gospel of John 13: 1-15

+++

Reflections:

*  Would we like Jesus to wash our feet?

*  Are we among those who not only want Jesus to wash them with water but also His blood?

*  Are we ready to serve and wash others feet?

Saint of the Day:

St. Francis of Paola, pray for us.
