OWN TREASURES IN HEAVEN

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today:

wisdom 081715

A young man approached Jesus and said, “TEACHER, WHAT GOOD MUST I DO TO GAIN ETERNAL LIFE?”

He answered him, “Why do you ask me about the good?  There is only One who is good.  If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

He asked Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus replied, “You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother; and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

The young man said to Him, “All of these I have observed.  What do I still lack?”  Jesus said to him, “IF YOU WISH TO BE PERFECT, GO, SELL WHAT YOU HAVE AND GIVE TO THE POOR, AND YOU WILL HAVE TREASURE IN HEAVEN. THEN COME, FOLLOW ME.”

When the young man heard this statement, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

-From the Gospel of Matthew 19:16-22

Reflections:

*Do we see ourselves as the young man?

*Do we wish to attain eternal life?

*Are we willing to give up our earthly possessions and desires to attain such?

*Are we willing to follow Jesus?

NARROW GATE

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, June 23, 2015:

wisdom 062315

JESUS said to His disciples:

“DO NOT GIVE WHAT IS HOLY TO THE DOGS, OR THROW YOUR PEARLS BEFORE SWINE, LEST THEY TRAMPLE THEM UNDERFOOT, AND TURN AND TEAR YOU TO PIECES.

DO TO OTHERS WHATEVER YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO TO YOU.  This is the law of the Prophets.

“ENTER THROUGH THE NARROW GATE; FOR THE GATE IS WIDE AND THE ROAD BROAD THAT LEADS TO DESTRUCTION, AND THOSE WHO ENTER THROUGH IT ARE MANY.

HOW NARROW THE GATE AND CONSTRICTED THE ROAD THAT LEADS TO LIFE.  AND THOSE WHO FIND IT ARE FEW.”

-From the Gospel of Matthew 7: 6, 12-14

+++

Reflections:

*If we are to choose between a narrow and wide road which one do we prefer?

*Which road are we on right now?

*Are we willing to take on the narrow gate to discover life?

Saint of the Day:

St. John Fisher, pray for us.

The narrow gate is always open,

YOU ARE NOT FAR

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, June 05, 2015:

wisdom 060515

One of the scribes, came to Jesus and asked Him, “Which is the first of all the commandments?”

Jesus replied, “The first is this:  Hear O Israel! THE LORD GOD IS LORD ALONE!  YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOU HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.

The second is this:  YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.  There is no other commandment greater than these.”

The scribe said to Him, “Well said, teacher.  You are right in saying, ‘He is One and there is no other than he.’  And ‘to love Him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all you strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself’ is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding, He said to him, “YOU ARE NOT FAR FROM THE KINGDOM OF GOD.”

And no one dared to ask Him any more questions.

-From the Gospel of Mark 12: 28-34

+++

Reflections:

*Are we still aware of the two most important commandments laid down by Jesus?

*Are we aware that all 10 commandments of the old testament are summed up by these two?

*Are we willing to follow these so as to be near His kingdom?

Saint of the Day:

St. Boniface, pray for us.
