WHY ARE YOU TESTING ME?

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, June 03, 2015

wisdom 060315

Some Pharisees and Herodians were sent to Jesus to ensnare Him in His speech.

They came and said to Him, “Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you are not concerned with anyone’s opinion.  You do not regard a person’s status but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.  Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?  Should we pay or should we not pay?”

Knowing their hypocrisy He said to them, “WHY ARE YOU TESTING ME?  Bring me a denarius to look at.”

They brought one to Him and He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”  They replied to Him, “Caesar’s.”

So Jesus said to them, “REPAY TO CAESAR WHAT BELONGS TO CAESAR AND TO GOD WHAT BELONGS TO GOD.”

They were utterly amazed at him.

-From the Gospel of Mark 12: 13-17

Reflections:

*Do we faithfully pay our responsibilities as citizens of our country?

*Do we continue to test God in our daily lives?

*Why do we continue to question His wisdom?

HAVE PITY ON ME

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, May 28, 2015

wisdom 052815

As Jesus was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging.

On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, son of David, HAVE PITY ON ME.”  And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent.

But he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, HAVE PITY ON ME.”  Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”  So they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you.”

HE THREW ASIDE HIS CLOAK, SPRANG UP, AND CAME TO JESUS.

Jesus said to him in reply, “WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO FOR YOU?”

The blind man replied to him, “MASTER, I WANT TO SEE.”

Jesus told him, “GO YOUR WAY; YOUR FAITH HAS SAVED YOU.”

Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.

–  From the Gospel of Mark 10: 46-52

Reflections:

*How strong is our faith in Him?

*Have we ever asked for pity from Him?

*If He asks us, “What do you want me to do for you?”, what is our answer?

THE WAY BACK

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, May 25, 2015:

wisdom 052515

To the penitent GOD PROVIDES A WAY BACK, He encourages those who are losing hope and has chosen for them the lot of truth.  RETURN TO HIM AND GIVE UP SIN, PRAY TO THE LORD AND MAKE YOUR OFFENSES FEW.

Turn again to the Most High and away from your sin, hate intensely what He loathes, and know the justice and judgments of God, stand firm in the way set before you, in prayer to the the Most High God.

Who in the nether world can glorify the Most High in place of the living who offer their praise? Dwell no longer in the error of the ungodly, but offer your praise before death.  No more can the dead give praise than those who have never lived; you who are alive and well shall praise and glorify God in His mercies.

HOW GREAT THE MERCY OF THE LORD, HIS FORGIVENESS OF THOSE WHO RETURN TO HIM!

-From Sirach 17:20-24

Reflections:

*Are we in the brink of losing hope?  Why not go back to Him.

*Are we losing our lives? Why not call Him back.

*Do we still praise and glorify God?  Give them back to Him.

RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, May 24, 2015:

wisdom 052415

Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “PEACE BE WITH YOU.”

When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side.  The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.  Jesus said to them again, “PEACE BE WITH YOU.  AS THE FATHER HAS SENT ME, SO I SEND YOU.”

And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT.  WHOSE SINS YOU FORGIVE ARE FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS YOU RETAIN ARE RETAINED.”

-From the Gospel of John 20: 19-23

Reflections:

*Do we have peace?

*Are we ready to accept the peace offering of Jesus?

*Are we ready to accept the Holy Spirit?

DO YOU LOVE ME?

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, May 22, 2015:

wisdom 052215

After Jesus had revealed Himself to His disciples and eaten breakfast with them, He said to Simon Peter,

“Simon, son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME MORE THAN THESE?”  Simon Peter answered Him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”  Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”

He said to Simon Peter the second time, “Simon, son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME?”  Simon Peter answered Him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”  He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”

He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, DO YOU LOVE ME?”

Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to Him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”  Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.  Amen, amen, I say to you, WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER, YOU USED TO DRESS YOURSELF AND GO WHERE YOU WANTED; BUT WHEN YOU GROW OLD, YOU WILL STRETCH OUT YOUR HANDS, AND SOMEONE ELSE WILL DRESS YOU AND LEAD YOU WHERE YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO.”

He said this signifying by what kind of death He would glorify God.  And when he had said this, He said to him, “FOLLOW ME.”

– From the Gospel of John 21: 15-19

+++

Reflections:

*How will we answer Jesus asking us 3X if we love Him?

*How will we respond if we are told to tend His lambs?

*Are we ready to go to places we do not want to go to?

WE ARE ONE

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, May 21, 2015:

wisdom 052115

Lifting up His eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed, saying:

“I PRAY NOT ONLY FOR THESE, BUT ALSO FOR THOSE WHO WILL BELIEVE IN ME THROUGH THEIR WORD, SO THAT THEY MAY ALL BE ONE, AS YOU, FATHER, ARE IN ME AND I IN YOU, THAT THEY ALSO MAY BE IN US, THAT THE WORLD MAY BELIEVE THAT YOU SENT ME.  And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, AS WE ARE ONE, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me.

Father, they are your gift to me.  I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, THE WORLD ALSO DOES NOT KNOW YOU, BUT I KNOW YOU, AND THEY KNOW THAT YOU SENT ME.  I made known to them your name and I will make it known, THAT THE LOVE WITH WHICH YOU LOVED ME MAY BE IN THEM AND I IN THEM.”

-From the Gospel of John 17: 20-26

+++

Reflections:

*Are we aware that Jesus prayed for us even before we were born?

*Are we aware that He made wishes too and that His wish is for us to be with Him and experience God’s glory?

*Are willing to be one with Him to make God known in all corners of the world?

KEEP THEM FROM THE EVIL ONE

Our One Minute Wisdom for Today, May 20, 2015:

wisdom 052015

Lifting up His eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed, saying:

Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one.  When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave me, and guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of destruction, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled.

But now I am coming to you, I speak this in the world so that they may share my joy completely.  I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.  I DO NOT ASK THAT YOU TAKE THEM OUT OF THE WORLD BUT THAT YOU KEEP THEM FROM THE EVIL ONE.  They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.  Consecrate them in the truth.  Your word is truth.  As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world.  And I consecrate myself for them, so that they may be consecrated in truth.”

-From the Gospel of John 17:11-19

+++

Reflections:

*Jesus constantly prayed to the Father, how about us?

*Jesus constantly prayed for us, do we pray ourselves?

*Jesus prayed that we be kept from the evil one, how do we respond?
